Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program

The Prince Edward Island is also known as the PEI, it is regarded as the smallest province terms of size in Canada but one of the largest in terms of natural beauty, History and Canadian culture. The Island is particularly attractive to immigrants because it has excellent schools, no traffic, and no pollution.

The Prince Edward Island was home to the famous Charlottetown conference of 1864 that eventually led to the nations’ formation. If you have your eye on migrating to this province, the best way to migrate would be through the PEI Provincial Nominee Program, also known as PEI PNP.

The PEI PNP is just like every other provincial express entry programs, with targets on migrants who add value to the province. The program enables successful applicants to become a permanent resident quickly, usually within 6 months.

There are two ways a prospective immigrant can obtain a nomination certification from the Provincial Nominee Program Prince Edward Island, outside of the Express Entry, the applicant can apply to the program directly through the PEI Office of Immigration. If accepted by the Prince Edward Island PNP, the applicant can then sign up for Express Entry and include their provincial nomination in their profile.

Or, the candidate creates an Express Entry profile and formally indicate an interest in immigrating to PEI within the system. The Prince Edward Island PNP can then directly contact the prospective immigrant using Express Entry, inviting them to apply for the PNP. This method is usually recommended, as it also allows you to include your Express Entry Profile ID when submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the program.

The PEI PNP is divided into three categories:

  • The Business Impact
  • The PEI express entry and
  • The Labor Impact

These two categories are further divided into subcategories called streams.

The Business Impact Category

The PNP business impact category is for individuals who plan to invest in and actively manage a business on the Island. The steams under this category include:

  1. The 100% Ownership stream: This category is for foreign nationals who are ready to assume full ownership of a local business, it could be a new business or an existing PEI business, which the individual would buy its entirety.
  2. Partial Ownership Stream: This category is for foreign nationals who are interested in purchasing either one-third or make a minimum equity investment in the company.
  3. The work permit stream: This stream provides foreign nationals with a work permit so that the candidate can move to PET and work with/ in the business they decided to invest in.

The Labor Impact Category

This category is for foreign workers and recent graduates. Candidates can apply through one of the Prince Edwards Island’s Labour Impact Streams (Skilled Workers in PEI and Outside Canada, Critical Worker or International Graduate).

Individuals who have gained employment in PEI are given the opportunity to speed up their permanent resident application process when they receive PEI PNP.

PEI Express Entry:

This stream gives candidates who express interest to live and work in Prince Edward Island the opportunity to move to the province.

Only candidates who are eligible for one of the Federal Economic Immigration Classes (Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trade, and Canadian Experience Class) are qualified for this program. The province also makes its selections based on the current labour needs of the province.
